JOAO Elephant "The Magnificent "
He was named after a famous hunter and trader from the area .He lived along the Shingwedzi river and to the south of it .His left tusk was estimated to be at least 266cm (8ft 9inc) long approx.-60kg (132ib) , with a circumference of 55cm at the tip, more than any of the other magnificent seven. The right tusk was estimated to weigh 55kg (121ib) and approx. 250cm (8ft 2inc) long. In 1984 he broke both tusks off 20-30cm from the lip, due to a fight and they were never found. I n 1982 ivory poachers shot him four times with AK-47 bullets. The wounds were not severe and were cleaned and treated with antibiotics.
