Peridot is a gemstone-quality variety of the mineral olivine, known for its distinctive yellow-green to olive-green color. It's a relatively rare gemstone, formed deep within the Earth's mantle and brought to the surface by volcanic activity or found in meteorites. Peridot is also the birthstone for August.
