Shingwedzi Elephant Head (m) SP109

“Place of ironstone”

Named after the river and rest camp, in the Kruger National Park, where he spent the last few years of his life. He was a settled animal and was known to move as far west as Nkonkodzi and the Chugamila hills and as far east as the Lebombos in the in the vicinity of Shingomeni.

His Ivory offers a good example of the classic master ad servant tusk. The left (master) tusk weighed 58.1kgs, (128lbs),264cm long and 48.0cm thick at the tip. The right (servant) tusk -used most frequently and therefore broken short-weighed only47.2kgs, (104lb),207cm long and 47.5cm thick at the lip. He died in January 1981 of old age. His estimated age was 56years.
