Zambezi Dreams. The elephant and the combretum were both present at a friend's wedding. This drawing represents dreams of the future as well as memories of the past and was done to commemorate a very special occasion, where family and friends gathered to celebrate on the banks of the Zambezi River. Giving a dreamlike quality to the drawing, teasing out the long eyelashes, getting the texture of the skin just right on the elephant and bringing out the russet and gold of the combretum was so satisfying and while drawing I could almost smell the dry dusty air of the African bush. Precious memories indeed.
