I'm Sharon Boonzaier, the artist and designer behind Sharon B Design. My work is inspired by our wild coastline waters, the abundance of our natural fauna and flora, and the rich heritage of Cape Town. I paint with bold colour, spontaneity, and movement — bringing blank canvasses instantly to life with ink, oil, and gold leaf.

As a descendant of the late Gregoire Boonzaier — one of the forefathers of South African 20th-century fine art — creative expression has always been in my blood. I spent years working in the advertising and film industries, which gave me a love for bold design and fresh colour. Now I channel that energy into paintings that capture moments of pure inspiration.

I describe my style as "stillness with motion." Paint demands spontaneity — it doesn't like to behave or be told what to do. It will run exactly where you don't want it to and then create something utterly magical. I maintain that suspension of belief by never overworking a composition. Brush strokes must be fresh, never tired.

From Original Artwork to Luxury Homeware

What began with original paintings soon grew into something bigger. I started scanning and printing selected artworks onto gorgeous natural substrates — creating luxury linen cushion covers, fine-wool scarves, table runners, porcelain candles, tea towels, and stationery. Every product carries the same spontaneity and heart as the original painting it came from.

Each and every Sharon B Design item is proudly designed, printed, and manufactured in South Africa. This supports local seamstresses, bookbinders, studio assistants, and their families. When you purchase a piece, you're not just buying something beautiful — you're buying into moments of hard work, passion, and creative magic.

Collaboration & Craft

I've been fortunate to collaborate with gifted creatives like Joanna Orr of Head On Design, with whom I create hand-painted, wall-mounted animal sculptural heads combining sculpted wood with ink and gold leaf. I also worked alongside Charmaine Taylor of Legacy Collection on a range of Mandela-inspired ink artworks celebrating his life.

My deep love of South Africa's indigenous flora and fauna is woven into everything I make. From Cape Leopard and Fynbos motifs to ocean blues and protea pinks, every piece carries a story of this land.
