FUN FACTS ABOUT ELEPHANTS

Biggest land animal: African elephants are the largest animals that live on land. A grown male can weigh between 5 and 7 tons — that’s as heavy as a big delivery truck.

Long trunks: Their trunks are really long noses made of over 40,000 muscles. They use them to eat, drink, smell, trumpet, and even give hugs.

Smart and emotional: African elephants are very intelligent. They can remember people, places, and other elephants for many years, and they show feelings like happiness, sadness, and care.

Strong family bonds: They live in herds led by a wise older female called a matriarch, who helps guide and protect everyone.

Large ears: African elephants have much bigger ears than Asian elephants. They flap them to cool down in the hot sun.
