FUN FACTS ABOUT RHINOS

Two types: Africa has two kinds of rhinos — the black rhino and the white rhino. Funny enough, they’re both gray!

Big and heavy: A grown male white rhino can weigh up to 2.5 tons, about as much as a big pickup truck.

Thick skin: Their skin can be up to 5 centimeters thick, helping protect them from thorns, sun, and even insect bites.

Horn power: Rhinos have one or two horns made of keratin — the same stuff as your hair and nails. They use them for defense and digging up roots.

Good smell, bad sight: Rhinos have poor eyesight but an excellent sense of smell and hearing, which helps them stay alert.

Speedy giants: Despite their size, rhinos can run up to 50 km/h for short bursts — that’s faster than most people can cycle!
