A favourite food of the Giraffe, whose prehensile tongue and narrow lips are adapted to deal with sharp thorns, the iconic Kameeldoring can grow up to 80m tall and live for 200 years. Occurring widely in the arid areas of Southern Africa, this important tree provides shade, an edible sweet gum, fodder in the form of nutritious seed pods,  and bark and roots that are used in traditional medicine.
